I took a course this year called "anthropological studies of inequality, poverty and the US"
I think the title really says it all- we learned about inequalities in the education systems, gender/ethnic/racial/income/political inequalities, etc. etc in the US.
Nonetheless, this course really opened my eyes on issues that are close to home, and issues that has persisted and still remain prominent, yet we choose not to think about, like homelessness.
All i have to say is wow, every single lecture, i leave the classroom feeling more enlightened than ever, and my feelings of conviction feels stronger by the week.
I will always remember how my professor ended the year with this quote, which, as some of you know, is from Coach Carter, but it's actually from Nelson Mandela's speeh. SO good.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God; your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
-NELSON MANDELA, inaugural speech, 1994

It challenges you....now with all the knowledge you've gained, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

Am i going to just let it sit and "simmer down"?
Or am i going to get off my lazy bum and do something about it?

..........here i am Lord

where do i start?
